Free Bicyle Distribution

  • The scheme of distributing free bicycle was started in 2006-07. Initially it was extended to the girl students of 8th standard residing in remote and hilly regions, belonging to a family with BPL card and studying in a government or aided schools. Gradually it got extended to all girls and boys students of 8th standard, expect the corportion limits and where there is bus pass 
  • The intention of this scheme is to install confidence in the students, avoid late coming to school and to increase the attendence.
  • In 2017-18 together provided 2,47,955 Girls cycle and 2,57,941 boys cycle and a total of 5,05,896 bicycles have been distributed. The expenditure incurred is Rs.172.00 crores .
  • A tool kit has also been provided to every school and every cycle has been provided with a 5 year warranty card. A service camp is organised at the cluster level within 6 months of distribution of Bicycle.
